Board of Directors

  • Lisa Lombard, PhD

    Dr. Lisa Lombard founded Comfort Kits for Children in March 2022. She brings over 30 years of direct service, teaching, and supervisory experience to this humanitarian effort. As a clinical psychologist in Chicago, she integrates mind-body skills in her therapeutic work with children, families, and adults. She has extensive experience providing treatment to children and adults coping with unexpected grief and loss as well as providing assessment and treatment to children who had experienced abuse and neglect.

  • Cheryl Bemel, PhD

    Dr. Cheryl Bemel is a licensed psychologist. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota's School of Dentistry, training dentists and dental students in psychophysiological management of pain techniques with patients. Dr. Bemel has proudly deployed with the Minnesota Behavioral Health Medical Reserve Corps to provide Psychological First Aid at national disaster sites. Dr. Bemel is a former provider of trauma services within Minneapolis Police Department’s Child Development Policing Project. She has also provided care as a Crisis Psychologist in hospital emergency rooms. Dr. Bemel has her own private practice where she treats children and families dealing with chronic conditions ranging from complex medical disorders to chronic PTSD. Dr. Bemel is an Approved Consultant with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and also teaches at conferences for NPHTI (National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute) when invited to do so. Dr. Bemel received the Courage Kenny Rehab Institute’s Jacobsen Award for her innovative design in safety measures, increasing protective head gear/helmet appeal for children with disabilities.   • Bob Deutsch, PhD

    Dr. Bob Deutsch joined Dr. Lombard in Spring 2022 to co-found Comfort Kits for Children. He has over 40 years of experience treating children, adults, and families, teaching and supervising healthcare professionals, and playing leadership roles in healthcare organizations. As a clinical psychologist in West Hartford, CT, his specific interests include helping people who are contending with psychological, mind/body and addiction disorders. He has worked closely with children and adults enduring loss, medical trauma, and the end-of-life experience.

  • Brynn Sytsma, PsyD

    Dr. Brynn is a pediatric neuropsychologist in Wisconsin. She has experience providing therapeutic and assessment services in both community and school settings. As a trauma-informed and neurodiversity affirming clinician, she values taking a resiliency and strength-based approach to her work with children and their families.
